Decades of hard work and perseverance have seen the rise of Derek Sharp to the exalted status of Canadian Rock Royalty. His front man gig with the venerable and still very popular touring act The Guess Who cemented that status. It is a mantle he wears humbly and with good natured humour. Derek is no prima donna he is just a regular guy, living his dream from day to day and pinching himself from time to time. Here is an update about projects from Derek, news accumulated since our early July interview:
“We have decided to finish the new Guess Who Album probably by the end of this year. Will have some cool special guests on it as well but I can’t disclose who they are at this time. It will be the band’s first studio album in over 20 years. I have written most of the songs myself, but I did some co-writing with Hill Kourkoutis (hillandtheskyheroes.com). She is a young up and coming Artist/Songwriter/Producer. Also, it looks likely that I will be hooking up with Randy Bachman next month to write some songs as well.
In addition to being a SIT String endorsee, I am now hooked up with Prestige Guitars and Bogner Amps. (The amp is arriving next week so I’m pretty pumped to fire it up!!)
Jason Engstrom usually puts our dates up on the Facebook page.
Sass is working on a new CD so I’ll likely have some part in that. They are still in the initial planning stages due to the fact that she is currently in Cold Lake, AB for her Honorary Colonel Investiture. (our congrats to Sass!!!!)
There is no current news with 3GO (Derek’s solo band) but we are likely gonna work on our CD in the late fall due to other commitments.
Sit back and listen to Derek enthusiastically tell his story: his beginnings, early bands, meeting Sass, getting a phone call from EVH, landing the Guess Who gig and much much more. Ladies and gentlemen, the charismatic Derek Sharp.
